Louise Deal
Louise Deal was born in Dallas, Texas (USA), on 12 April 1954. She was raised in a musical family. Her grandmother was a singer, organist and choral conductor, and her mother was a singer. Her father was managed the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and later the Seattle Symphony while also working as a Professor of Music Administration, violinist and composer.
Louise took piano lessons at the age of 6 and started singing lessons when she was 16. In 1981 she graduated from the University of Washington as a Master of Music in vocal performance. During her studies she trained at the San Francisco Opera and the Metropolitan Opera of New York and she won a number of international prizes.
During her 15-year career as soprano soloist she appeared with the Seattle Symphony, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Florida Philharmonic and the Limburg Symphony in Maastricht. In 1978 she met Dutch baritone Rob Pluymen. They married and, in 1986, settled permanently in the Dutch province of Limburg.
Some time ago Louise stopped performing as a soloist - but "searching for that old joy of choral singing" she took a choral concucting course at Maarstricht Conservatory with Ludo Cleassen. She graduated in 2002 and extended her activities as a private singing teacher to become Musical Director of Women's Vocal Ensemble Sirena in Eindhoven (Netherlands). She conducted the ensemble for five successful years.
In January 2005 Louise became Musical Director of Vocal Ensemble
Kerkrade, a small ensemble of 19 women. In 2007 Louise and Vocal
Ensemble Kerkrade won the Limburg finals of the
Dutch Choir Festival,
and in 2008 they became third in the national competition
.
In 2009 Vocal Ensemble Kerkrade organised a trip to Rome where they
performed the world premiere of Kentaro Sato's Missa Trinitas.
In October 2009 Louise also became Musical Director of the international chamber choir The Vocal Consort of Brussels.
